However, in Hwa Rang Do, with its extensive knowledge of joints and the human anatomy for both injuring and healing, joint locks are effective takedown techniques. Hwa Rang Do has extensive techniques dealing with the subject of Takedowns. Its strategy of combat is to incapacitate the opponent with one movement. However, Hwa Rang Do also believes that there is more than one way of doing things, as it states in the theory of Um/Yang. Therefore, it offers unlimited options for every possible situation one may encounter in combat. It addresses how to move through the three different stages of fighting: Stage I ñ Standing With Distance, Stage II ñ Standing In-Close, and Stage III ñ On The Ground.
