After following the poet's path through Ireland, France, and the beat neighborhoods of San Francisco, he found a different rhythm and a different muse in the Appalachian woods of North Carolina. He spent four years living in the shadows of Thoreau and wizened moonshiners, and found unexpected answers in the simple rhythms and sounds of nature. He discovered his own self-sufficiency, a deep and familial relationship with wildlife, and an ability to allow inspiration to speak through him in ways his cognitive mind never could.
