"You don't need to go looking for answers. Probably the best way to find them is to stop looking for them, in the sense of being still and being in one place." These words from Thomas Rain Crowe come straight from his own experience. After following the poet's path through Ireland, France, and the beat neighborhoods of San Francisco, he found a different rhythm and a different muse in the Appalachian woods of North Carolina. He spent four years living in the shadows of Thoreau and wizened moonshiners, and found unexpected answers in the simple rhythms and sounds of nature. He discovered his own self-sufficiency, a deep and familial relationship with wildlife, and an ability to allow inspiration to speak through him in ways his cognitive mind never could. In his readings, Mr. Crowe's poetry demonstrates a rare blend of intuition and groundedness, a Zen quality that shines through the simple words of a mountain man.

Thomas Rain Crowe is a poet, translator, editor, publisher, recording artist, and author of twelve books of original and translated works. He was editor of Beatitude magazine and press, cofounder and director of the San Francisco International Poetry Festival, and founder of New Native Press and Fern Hill Records. His books include Drunk on the Wine of the Beloved: 100 Poems of Hafiz (Shamabhala 2001), Water From the Moon (New Native Press 1993), and Zoro's Field: My Life in the Appalachian Woods (University of Georgia Press 2005).
