How can you say, “professional growth is important” if you don’t spend time talking with your employees to help them determine how to be successful? In employee focus groups across the landscape, one of the main reasons identified for employees leaving one company to work for another was leadership’s failure to provide a clear picture of the company’s direction and how the employees figured into this journey. Employees need to be kept current on the big picture—where the company wants to go, how it plans to get there, and how employees can fit into this goal. In fact, the mission statement hanging on the wall often says one thing, you tell them another, and their compensation rewards them for something else.
