Trained as both a biologist and a psychologist, Joan Borysenko has had a lifelong interest in the connections between science, psychology and spirituality. Exploring ways to shed self-blame and the pessimism of unhealthy guilt, she retrieves the wonder and mystery of being alive, and reviews the 21 telling "expressions" that indicate excessive guilt. She speaks of the ultimate value of faith, and of going beyond yesterday's regrets and the worry of anticipated tomorrows.

Joan Borysenko is an internationally known speaker on spirituality, integrative medicine and the mind/body connection. She has a doctorate in medical sciences from Harvard Medical School, is a licensed clinical psychologist, is the cofounder of the Claritas Institute for Interspiritual Inquiry and Director of its Interspiritual Mentor Training Program. She is the author of many books including Guilt Is the Teacher, Love Is the Lesson (Harper Collins 1993), Minding the Body, Mending the Mind (Da Capo Lifelong Books, revised 2007), Inner Peace for Busy Women: Balancing Work, Family, and Your Inner Life (Hay House 2003), A Woman's Book of Life: The Biology, Psychology, and Spirituality of the Feminine Life Cycle (Riverhead 1998), Fire in the Soul: A New Psychology of Spiritual Optimism (Grand Central Publishing 1994), and with her husband Gordon F. Dveirin authored Saying Yes to Change (Hay House 2005), and Your Soul's Compass: What Is Spiritual Guidance? (Hay House 2007).
